Canstage - Five Faces for Evelyn Frost

I regret to say that I am finding it very difficult to figure out what is happening on stage at CanStage these days. I believe I got the millennial angst and hazards of club culture, but not sure about the connection to Evelyn Frost. This was too abstract a play for my taste.

Theatre Sheridan - Footloose

Excellent performance - many awesome voices and dance skills, great choreography. We were really impressed with the staging transitions. All around fabulous, fun show.

St Clements Sr School - Cinderella

I have to do a shout out for St Clements senior high school students, who put on an awesome musical - they were terrific, singing and dancing, naturals on stage. The stage crew also did a great job of creatively transitioning the sets and, in this case, props like the carriage and footmen, etc.

Theatre Passe Muraille - John & Waleed

Lovely combinations of Western and African music, featuring a unique collection of instruments, John & Waleed demonstrated a level of comaraderia and mutual respect that makes us proud of the mosaic that is Toronto.

Art of Time - Northern Songs 2: A festival of Canadian Music

Although very talented performers, sadly I enjoyed only one piece in the program, which was the Oscar Peterson song, featuring Jacquie Richardson. The Hitchcock Interlude, very much a millennial piece, with a series of gifs put to music, was the most "out there" piece, certainly interesting...

Art of Time - Northern Songs 1: A festival of Canadian Music

Awesome program, representing some of the best of Canadian popular music, although I didn't recognize everything. Very easy listening arrangements and stellar performances all around.

Crow's Theatre - The Wedding Party

There is amazing theatre in the East end !! The Wedding Party was hilarious, with non stop twists, turns, gags and physical comedy. Many unexpected and special moments - it's clear why this play is selling out.

TSO Exposed: What Makes it Great? - Haydn

Even though some of the explanation was over my head, Rob Kapilow's enthusiasm and passion for the piece, as he engaged the audience in the deconstruction in the first half, was well worth the show. And I was actually able to hear some of the passages as he described them when the orchestra played the piece in full in the second half, so I learned more than I thought .....

Bound to be a sold out show, Trey Anthony's powerful story of mother/daughter relationships gives a window into difficult choices and the effect on their lives.

Mirvish - Saturday Night Fever

Energetic and fun, the songs and choreography captured the essence of the film perfectly. The leads were well cast and the women in particular have amazing voices.

Fabulous show, and so great I am afraid to say anything so that you can experience it without any potential spoilers. An awesome cast kept us totally immersed in the drama.

Soulpepper - The Last Wife

Excellent play about Katherine Parr, King Henry VIII's last wife, her influence on Henry and the challenges of being an intelligent and proud woman in those days. Outstanding performances all around. Strongly recommended.

Nightwood - Unholy

Spirited theological discourse comparing, contrasting and challenging 4 religious doctrines. Thought provoking. Sold out for the rest of the run, so you'll have to take my word for it....
